How do I play bass with a pick?

I know it sounds silly, but I can't figure out a good way of doing it. I can play with my fingers just fine, but I can't seem to control the pick. I can play in 8th notes but I can't do triplets. I don't know if I should anchor my hand..etc. Any tips and answers are appreciated.
