Remove design/writing off of t-shirt?

There's this really nice t-shirt I want to order online but there's this writing on the back that I don't really like that I think kinda ruins it. Is there a way I can etch out or remove the writing on the back of the shirt. It's a black 100% cotton shirt and nothing is embroidered or sewed on or anything. Any way I can remove just the stuff on the back of the shirt that I don't like? Thanks.
