I don't know what to put with this item of clothing? Help please?

My cousin bought me a gold and beige waistcoat. It isn't the typical shape of a waistcoat, it has little puffy shoulders, like it just cups my shoulders before the sleeve cuts off, if that makes sense. It's beige and embroidered with gold flowers, in almost a Chinese style. It goes down just past my breasts and it does up with one big button in the middle. I have NO idea what to wear it with as I've never owned a waistcoat like it. I cant find similar pics and I can't upload a pic as I'm on an iPod.. But what would I put with it? I tried it with a black ruffle dress, and it looked nice just very posh. I have a petite shape, but I'd say I'm slightly pear shaped? As I've got wide, curvy hips.. Help?!
